Mr. A Mahendran, Chairman MBS

From Chairman's Desk

It had been my dream to build a world- class management institute in Mumbai in view of the fact that it is the financial capital of the country and the heart of all corporate activities.

My experience of leading reputable corporate organizations over past two decades suggests that there is considerable gap between the expectations of organizations from young managers joining from B-school campuses and the value they bring to the table in the form of their skills and knowledge. This is mainly because of shortcomings in ability of young B-school graduates to apply themselves to the real world problems as they rely strongly on theoretical inputs without appreciating the coherence of practice and frameworks. Given the environment, organizations, would find it increasingly difficult to invest time in grooming these talents to provide effective output. The need therefore, is to receive 'Deliverable Managers'.

It has also been observed that there is a high reliance on Intelligence Quotient, the left- brain for carrying out allotted tasks. This does give desired results as far as line functions are concerned and enables good efficiency. These young managers when tasked with higher responsibilities should be higher on Emotional Quotient, to comprehend the interplay of relationships at work to produce sustainable effectiveness. MBS focuses on fostering human capital excellence to create 'Empathetic and Smart Managers' who develop and nurture lasting and profiteering relationships amongst all stakeholders.

Most organizations have attained high degree of professional maturity by resorting to 'Best Practices'. The fast changing economic environment and complexities posed by global businesses have made these best practices inadequate as they are grounded in the current mindset. The need therefore, is for managers with 'entrepreneurial' attitude who will resort to 'The Next best Practices' in meeting the managerial challenge- yet another focus of MBS

Mumbai Business School (MBS) to me is an analogous acronym for 'Mind Body & Soul', the integration of which will be the hallmark of a successful manager of the future.

Mind: Intelligence and analytical thinking ensuring effectiveness and efficiency.

Body: To have perseverance, diligence and a never say die attitude ensuring sustenance.

Soul: Emotional belonging, intrinsic happiness, and satisfaction to create rich experience.

MBS promises empathetic and smart managers to the corporate for partnering in achieving their goals through a host of uniquely designed and out of the box programs.
